Alan Lees – Conductor
Alan Lees is the
founder and conductor of St John’s Festival Orchestra, Chester, which for the
past thirty years has given a summer series of concerts in the fine setting of
St John the Baptist Church. He was also for several years the principal
conductor of the Wirral Sinfonia and of the Port Sunlight Light Orchestral
Society. He enjoys all kinds of music, classical and popular, and has been
instrumental in conducting first performances of many works. In February 1999
with the St John’s Orchestra he will be presenting first performances of three
new works. He has previously conducted concerts with the Wrexham Orchestra and
is delighted to be with them again on this occasion.
He is also a composer having written music for dramatic performances, including a production of the Chester Mystery Plays in 1973, and much church music which has been published and performed in this country and recently in Lucca and Florence. In addition he has written and arranged music for Orchestra and string quartet and his recently completed Concertino for Recorder and Strings will be receiving its first performance early next year.
