WREXHAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Andrew Jackson -
Clarinet
I started playing the clarinet when I was
8 and have been playing for 11 years. During the past 6 years I have been in a
number of youth music groups: When I was 13 I joined the Wirral Schools
Intermediate Wind Band, conducted by Denise Scott and I was a member for a
year. After this, I moved up to the Wirral Schools Orchestra, which is
conducted by Phil Chapman. In my last year in the orchestra I was promoted to
principal clarinettist - a position that I enjoyed. I remained in this
orchestra until I left school last year. During the 5 years that I was in the
orchestra I went on three tours - to Germany in 1996, Austria in 1998 and The
Czech Republic last year. At the age of 15 I also joined the Wirral Schools
Concert Band, which is conducted by David Straughan. I remained in the band
until I left school. I sat my classical Grade 8 exam in March 1999 which I
passed and I have also sat exams in both jazz clarinet and jazz alto saxophone,
all of which I have passed with most of the passes being of merit level. I
joined the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra in September 2000 and I have played in
one concert so far which proved to be both an enjoyment and a great success and
I am looking forward to the next concert in the coming weeks. I am looking
forward to remaining in the orchestra for the years to come.
