WREXHAM SYMPHONY
ORCHESTRA
Andrew
McCaddon – Violin
Andrew McCaddon is originally from Buckley, and was a member of the
Flintshire, Clwyd and North Wales Youth Orchestras during the 1970’s. He
trained in Sheffield, initially as a Cell Biologist, before pursuing a
career in Medicine. After completing his training as a General Practitioner he
returned to North Wales to practice. He has been a full-time partner in
Gardden Road Surgery Rhosllanerchrugog since 1990 and joined the Wrexham
Symphony Orchestra soon afterwards. He is married to Anne, a Practice Nurse,
and has three children. He enjoys all
aspects of classical music, and has even declared an interest in the works of
Eric Coates, much to the disdain of his violin-desk partner Craig Clewley!
In recent years Andrew
has migrated to the viola section. This
was a brave move; Craig suggested that the next step would be collecting
tickets at the door!
Andrew has an interest in
B vitamin deficiency and dementia, and the Wales Office of Research and
Development have funded his research. In
January 2004 the University
of Sheffield awarded him the degree of “Doctorate of Medicine
with Distinction” for his work on vitamin B12 deficiency and Alzheimer’s
disease. He is currently assisting a US pharmaceutical company with the development of
clinical trials in relation to the use of B vitamins in patents with mild
cognitive impairment.
