WREXHAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Angela Pettit–Jones - Horn
Angela began playing brass instruments at primary school
in East Sussex under the guidance of Tim Lord.
She started on the cornet, and then later moved on to Baritone and
Euphonium. She toured France and
Germany with Sussex Brass, English Festival Brass and Brass Spectacular. On moving to North Wales in 1979 she was
invited to play with Point of Ayr and stayed with them on their rise to the
Championship section.
In 1990, Angela changed direction and moved into
orchestral music playing the cornet/trumpet in the Denbigh Orchestra. During this period she also began studying
for an Open University Degree, opting for all the music modules. This was completed in 1998 and was followed
by a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Bangor. Angela is now teaching full time at Ysgol
Gellifor near Ruthin.
However, by 1995 she had become bored with counting bars
rest, and writing out parts to play in a wind quintet, so when Angela was given
the opportunity to try out a horn she took it up enthusiastically. She now studies the horn with Anthony
Randall, and in April (2002) won the Open Brass Solo at the Chester Spring
Festival.
Angela joined the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra at the end of 1999 and has now become a regular member.
