Benjamin Lowe started learning the violin at the age of
eight with Howard Davis of the Alberni Quartet. He subsequently studied with Frederick
Grinke, Emmanuel Hurwitz and, most recently, Yfrah Neaman of the Guildhall
School of Music. After gaining a philosophy degree at Leeds University, he
spent a short time teaching in Turkey and Spain before moving to London, where
he worked as a professional violinist for six years. During this period he
played regularly with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta and the Ulster Orchestra as
well as with a variety of freelance groups. He formed a successful duo with his
regular pianist Sonia Levy and was a frequent leader and soloist with chamber
orchestras in and around London. He has worked extensively abroad, spending two
years in South Africa as a member of the National Chamber Orchestra and the
Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, and leading a number of orchestral tours to
southern Spain.
Last year, Ben moved to Chester to take up a place
at the College of Law in Christleton. He is a regular member and guest leader
of the Cambrian Philharmonic Orchestra and has also played with the Chester
Philharmonic and St John’s orchestras. This is his first appearance as guest
leader of the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra.
