Blake
Fischer - Tenor
Blake was born in Melbourne, Australia where he attended the Victorian College of
the Arts before moving to the UK to
study at the Royal Northern College of Music as a Peter Moores Scholar. A
multiple prize winner, Blake was awarded an RNCM’s Gold Medal in 2003.
In 1996 he was in the Australian productions of My Fair Lady and Chess-The Musical; in 1997, he joined Opera Australia for minor
roles/chorus and has sung in a total of 17 productions to date at the Sydney
Opera House. Recent roles have included the Errand Boy in A Dinner Engagement under Richard
Hickox at the Linbury Studio, Covent Garden; Lensky in Eugene Onegin, Scottish Opera on Tour and Panas in Cherevichki with Garsington Opera. Other professional operatic
enagements include chorus work at the Salzburg Festival under Claudio Abbado, Glyndebourne and Garsington Opera.
Blake established himself as a recitalist in 1998
winning the prestigious 'Mietta's City
of Melbourne Song Recital Award.' This enabled him to perform recitals all over Australia,
including the 1994 & 1998 Melbourne International Festivals both of which
were broadcast on ABC FM, and the 1999 Brisbane International Festival, Sydney 'ABC Studio' Lunchtime
recital recording, Mildura, Canberra, Castlemaine and St Johns Southgate.
Recitals in the UK
include: Dulwich Picture Gallery, Hull University,
Kendall Arts centre, Leek, Warwick and Leigh. His recital and
concert work has included performances at the Melbourne Concert Hall, Perth
Concert Hall, Tokyo Concert Hall and the New Israeli Opera House in Tel
Aviv. Blake was also invited back to
the RNCM to perform a recital in the Young Artist Series.
2005 engagements include: Recitals at Burnley and Pendle Music society,
St-Martin-in-the Fields, London and the Nidderdale Festival, understudying the role of Jacquino in Fidelio
with Scottish Opera, Basilio in Le
Nozze di Figaro with Garsington Opera,
and performing in the ensemble of the Salzburg Festivals’ “Peter Grimes”
with the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle
Recordings include ' A Shropshire Lad' - Move Records
and “Errand Boy” A Dinner Engagement with Richard Hickox on the CHANDOS label.
