Gillian Ramm - Soprano

 

Gillian commenced her studies at the RNCM in September 2003 and has already passed her Post-Graduate Diploma with Distinction.  Gillian studies with vocal tutor Mary Brennan, and is pleased to be a major scholar of the Peter Moores Foundation for 2004/05.  Operatic roles to her credit at RNCM include Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Anne Trulove in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress.  She has also performed major roles in staged excerpts from I Pagliacci and La Traviata. 

 

Gillian was able to travel to England after winning the RNCM prize in the 2002 finals of the prestigious “Australian Singing Competition”.  In that same competition she was awarded a scholarship to attend the International Vocal Arts Institute summer programme in Tel Aviv.  Gillian was also a Commonwealth Music Scholar with the Royal Overseas League in 2003, enabling her to perform in recital at St. James’, Piccadilly.

 

Born and raised in Western Australia, Gillian completed a Bachelor of Music at the West Australian Conservatorium of Music in 2001 and was a Young Artist with the West Australian Opera Company in 2001/02.   With West Australian Opera she performed the roles of Valencienne in The Merry Widow (Lehár) and Inez in Verdi’s Il Trovatore, and was a regular concert soloist and member of the touring Opera in Education programme.   

 

Other operatic roles to her credit include the title role in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Oberto in Handel’s Alcina and the title role in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience.  Her concert repertoire includes The Creation (Haydn), Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor and Mahler’s 4th Symphony in G.   Gillian also loves performing song repertoire, and has recorded 2 solo song recitals for ABC Classic FM in Australia.
