WREXHAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Giulia de Rosa – Violin
Giulia began playing
violin through the Clwyd Peripatetic Service taught by Emlyn Evans. She
continued her studies with Ralph Shaw, and then Simon Weiman and Carl Derby of
the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra. Since graduation, she has studied with
Michael Gatward.
She
joined the Clwyd Youth Orchestra in 1986, becoming their leader in 1990. She
also became principal of the North Wales Youth Orchestra and National Youth
Orchestra of Wales (NYOW). In 1992, she was awarded the most promising player
under 18 by the NYOW. In the same year she went to Cardiff University to
continue her music studies where she gained a BMus Honours degree. While there,
she was principal of the University Symphony Orchestra and University Chamber
Orchestra. This included a performance of Bach’s Brandenberg Concerto no 4 in
her final year. She also organised and participated in many String Quartet
concerts. She chose to specialise in the works of Charles Ives in her final
year and was awarded a departmental achievement award on graduation.
After
graduation Giulia decided not to choose a career in music. However, she still
continues to lead an active musical life. She continues to lead ‘Opus One’
Chamber Orchestra, which she has led for several years. She also plays with the
Cambrian Philharmonic and Wrexham Symphony Orchestra on a regular basis and
occasionally the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra. She organised and led the ‘Cerdd
Teg’ String Quartet with other former members of Welsh Youth Orchestras, some
of whom are performing in tonight’s concert. They specialise in Baroque and
early classical music and play in numerous charity events around North Wales.
She has also recently formed a String Quartet with players from the North West
area who play in venues around Liverpool and the Wirral.
