WREXHAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Our soloist tonight in the Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a
Theme by Paganini is Manchester born Ruth Fennell.
Ruth
was educated at Chethams School of Music where she gained a four year
scholarship at the age of fourteen. During this time she was awarded the gold
medal of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for the highest
exam mark in the country. She also gained the performers ARCM at the age of
sixteen.
Continuing
her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, Ruth worked with Professor
Derrick Wyndham and Vlado Perlemuter, then privately with Sir William Glock.
Ruth’s
career has included two tours of Germany and a tour of Canada and the USA. Next
year she will be travelling to Iran where she will give a recital and masterclass
for young pianists.
This is Ruth’s first concerto performance with the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra, though as a member of the Society she has performed several times within the orchestra playing celeste and orchestral piano parts. Ruth lives and teaches piano privately in Wrexham, and is currently accompanist to the celebrated St David’s School Girls’ Choir.
